A trip to Barchester

"I'm visiting Barchester with my mother and father."
"And are you having a pleasant trip?"
"Yes, very pleasant."

After reading the books by Anthony Trollope, I, of course, had to watch the lauded BBC adaptation: The Barchester Chronicles. Not only because I have to watch every adaptation of books I like, however awful, but because it was Alan Rickman's first film (other than a minor role in a Shakespeare movie). Despite the BBC's tendency to accurate but dull productions, this wasn't as bad as I expected, and was blessed with excellent acting. Even so, it wasn't until the third episode that this movie became really engrossing. Once Alan Rickman (slimy as possible) met Nigel Hawthorne (about to explode with frustration in most scenes) and they shared some killing glares, I could have watched the rest of their conflict for hours. Also worthy of note are Donald Pleasence, Angela Plesence and Barbara Flynn. There is nothing objectionable, other than a couple low cut dresses, and it was an accurate and worthy adaptation. I would definitely recommend this.

I love this movie. I have it on DVD. I love it when Nigel Hawthorne (Arch Deacon) is about to explode! LOL!

You are right, it starts getting good episode 3, And I love when the family from Italy gets there. The Bishop's party is priceless.
