Am I scary?

While at the Training Legislation for Youth and Government (more on this later), I was talking to the person next to me. She was nice and friendly, and we had been talking a while, when she asked: "What school are you from?"

I answered, "I'm homeschooled." Much to my shock, she visibly shrank back from me, with wide eyes. "Oh. Really?" She appeared actually scared, as if homeschooling was some strange disease. I was normal enough for her before (it's all an act, of course...), but once that was dropped, she closed up. I still don't know why.
